How Merfolk Participate in Plastic-Free July

It’s summertime, and merfolk are spending as much time as possible flipping their fins in local waters. However, many of our oceans, lakes, and rivers are littered with plastic pollution. By undertaking the Plastic-Free July challenge, merfolk and landfolk around the world are making waves!

Fin Fun Mermaid Ambassadors and Plastic-Free July

Our very own Fin Fun Ambassadors undertook this challenge and urged others to join on social media. They live in locations all around the world, and their influence has a global impact!

They used gorgeous pictures, inspiring quotes, and facts on the matter to motivate others to cut out single-use plastics and replace them with reusable products. Many of them also provide ways for you to start making waves yourself.

Want to Break Up with plastic but don’t know where to start? ⁣ ⁣ Today I will share with you 4 easy ways you can replace and reduce your single plastic use.⁣ ⁣ 1)reusable shopping bags and produce bags: Using a plastic grocery bag is so 2000. Most grocery stores allow you to bring your own reusable bags. This will reduce plastic waste dramatically. You alone can save between 400 and 600 plastic bags per year.⁣ ⁣ 2)Give up bottled water: ⁣ There are too many reasons why you should give up bottled water and switch to using a reusable water bottle. The plastic pollution caused by plastic bottles is a huge problem. ⁣ ⁣ 3)Say NO to plastic straws⁣ Is the plastic straw necessary? This is one of the items I find most when I participate in cleanups. Get yourself a reusable straw and take it with you everywhere. Waitresses and Bartenders are programmed to give you one by default. Next time you order, remember to tell them, “No straw, please.” ⁣ ⁣ 4)Use disposable or reusable cutlery sets⁣ Plastic “To Go” Cutlery is everywhere! I use reusable bamboo cutlery that I carry with me everywhere I go. You can tackle this by buying eco-friendly and biodegradable bamboo utensils. ⁣ See that’s not so hard. ⁣ ⁣ Living plastic-free is definitely an adjustment and will take time but every step counts! ⁣ ⁣ What are you doing do reduce your single-use plastic usage?
